Flag's Day in Venezuela, known as "Día de la Bandera," is celebrated on August 3rd. It marks the occasion in 1806 when Francisco de Miranda, a precursor to Venezuelan independence, first hoisted the national flag on Venezuelan soil. The event took place at the port of La Vela de Coro.
The original design of the flag consisted of three horizontal stripes: yellow, blue, and red, with a circle of white stars in the center. Miranda's intention was to represent the newly forming nation that would soon gain independence from Spanish colonial rule.
On Flag's Day, patriotic ceremonies and cultural events are held throughout Venezuela. Government officials and citizens participate in activities such as:
Public institutions may also hold special sessions or presentations to commemorate the day.
Individuals across the country express their patriotism by displaying flags at homes and public places. Social media platforms are often filled with messages and images showing respect for this national symbol. Venezuelans abroad may also celebrate by gathering at embassies or consulates, reflecting on their heritage and pride in their home country’s flag.
