Vietnam Veteran Recognition Day, also known as National Vietnam War Veterans Day, is observed annually on March 29 in the United States. This day is set aside to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans who served in the Vietnam War.
The history of this recognition day dates back to 2012, when it began as a simple commemorative event. However, it was officially designated as a national observance on March 28, 2017, when President Donald Trump signed into law The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act. March 29 was chosen specifically because on that date in 1973, Military Assistance Command Vietnam (MACV) was disbanded, and the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam, marking an end to direct U.S. military involvement in the war.
