The March Equinox, also known as the Vernal or Spring Equinox, typically occurs on March 20th or 21st in Ukraine and marks the astronomical first day of spring. On this day, the duration of day and night is approximately equal due to the Earth's tilt and its orbit around the Sun. In Ukraine, as in many other cultures, this period signifies the end of winter and the rebirth of nature.
Historically, the March Equinox has roots in pagan traditions. Slavic ancestors celebrated it as a part of their calendar and natural cycles. With the advent of Christianity, some of these practices were adapted into Christian holidays or faded with time.
In Ukraine, one of the main traditions associated with this time is Kompostry
or Komoeditsa

Today in Ukraine, while some ancient rituals have waned, several customs remain:
The March Equinox is less about specific festivities in modern Ukraine than it is about a change in spirit; it's a time when people anticipate warmer days ahead and engage in activities that reflect renewal both personally and culturally.
