History: According to tradition, Saint Marinus was a stonemason from the island of Rab in modern-day Croatia. He fled to Mount Titano to escape religious persecution and founded a small community there in AD 301. Over time, this community developed into the Republic of San Marino. The historical records documenting the existence of an organized community date back to 885 AD.
