St. Joana's Day, or Dia de Santa Joana Princesa, is celebrated on May 12th in Portugal. The day is dedicated to St. Joana, the patron saint of Aveiro, who was a Portuguese princess from the 15th century and the daughter of King Afonso V of Portugal.
Joana was born on February 6, 1452, and later became known for her devotion to the Catholic Church and her pious lifestyle. She expressed a desire to join a convent but never did so formally due to political reasons. After her death in 1490, she was beatified by Pope Innocent XII in 1693.
