History and Traditions: Valentine's Day in Lithuania, known as Švento Valentino diena, is a relatively new celebration, as it was not widely recognized during the Soviet era. Since regaining independence in 1990, Western traditions have influenced Lithuanian culture, and Valentine's Day has become increasingly popular among the younger generation.
While Lithuania has its own traditional day of love called Užgavėnės, which is celebrated at the beginning of spring (February or March) and is linked to pagan customs, Valentine's Day on February 14th has been adopted and is now celebrated alongside other global festivities.
Modern Celebrations:
Despite its foreign origins, Valentine's Day continues to grow in popularity in Lithuania each year as a day to celebrate love and affection between intimate companions.
