Hangeul Proclamation Day in South Korea
Hangeul Proclamation Day, known as Hangeul Day (한글날) in South Korea, is a national commemoration day celebrated on October 9th. It marks the invention and proclamation of Hangeul, the Korean alphabet, by King Sejong the Great and his scholars in 1443 and its promulgation in 1446 during the Joseon Dynasty.
History
Origin: The creation of Hangeul was an effort to promote literacy among common Koreans. Before its creation, Koreans used Classical Chinese characters with limited effectiveness.
Promulgation: King Sejong introduced Hangeul through a document titled "Hunminjeongeum," which explained the logic and purpose behind the new writing system.
Recognition: Initially not a public holiday, Hangeul Day was officially recognized after significant advocacy by Korean language scholars.

Ceremonies: Official ceremonies are held to honor King Sejong and his contribution to Korean culture.
Exhibitions & Events: Cultural events, exhibitions about Hangeul, and calligraphy competitions are organized nationwide.
