German World Children's Day (Weltkindertag) in Germany
Date: September 20th annually
History
Origin: Established after World War II to protect children’s rights.
UN Involvement: Became linked with the United Nations after the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1954.
East and West Germany: Initially celebrated on different dates in East (June 1st) and West Germany (September 20th).
Reunification: After reunification in 1990, September 20th was officially adopted as the common date.
