Errol Barrow Day is a public holiday in Barbados celebrated on January 21st. It commemorates the birthday of the Right Excellent Errol Walton Barrow, who is regarded as one of the Founding Fathers of Barbados and its first Prime Minister after gaining independence from Britain in 1966.
Errol Barrow served as Prime Minister from 1966 to 1976 and again from 1986 until his death in 1987. He played a pivotal role in the social and economic development of Barbados and is credited with establishing free education for all Barbadians, among other significant accomplishments.
Barrow's legacy also includes contributions to regional integration, being one of the leaders responsible for founding the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) which later evolved into what is now known as CARICOM (Caribbean Community).
