History: The May 1810 Revolution, also known as the May Revolution, was a series of events that took place from May 18 to May 25, 1810, in Buenos Aires. This period marked the beginning of the Argentine War of Independence. It was a result of both internal and external influences, such as the weakening of Spanish authority due to Napoleon's invasion of Spain and the rise of revolutionary ideas among the criollo population.
During this week, local residents and prominent figures convened at the Cabildo (town council) to discuss and decide on the formation of a local government to replace the Spanish Viceroyalty. This ultimately led to the establishment of the Primera Junta, Argentina’s first independent government.
National Day: Argentina's National Day is celebrated on May 25th each year to commemorate these revolutionary events. It is known as "Día de la Revolución de Mayo" or "Día de la Patria" (Homeland Day).
