Liberation Day in Albania
Liberation Day, known as Dita e Çlirimit in Albanian, is celebrated on November 29th. It marks the day in 1944 when Albania was liberated from Nazi occupation during World War II. The country had been under Italian control from 1939 until Italy's capitulation in 1943, after which Germany occupied Albania.
The resistance against the Axis powers was led by the National Liberation Movement (NLM), which consisted of various partisan groups. The NLM eventually evolved into the communist-dominated National Liberation Front, and its success led to the establishment of a communist regime in Albania that lasted until the early 1990s.
